Parent Responsibilities
KNS is a cooperative preschool. Parents form a community of families
who take responsibility for various aspects of the administration and
operation of the preschool. During each family's tenure, we hope parents
will consider being a Parent Teacher or serving as a Board Member.
Participation in the following activities is a condition of enrollment.
Responsibilities include:
1. Attending monthly general meetings.
2. Participating in two work parties a year.
3. Participating in fund raising events throughout the year.
4. Providing refreshments at one general meeting a year.
5. Participating on a school job and/or committee.
6. Providing morning or afternoon snack once a month
Parent Teachers are a vital part of the Kensington Nursery School
morning program. These parents complement the work of the teaching
staff by volunteering in the classroom one morning per week, sharing
special interest and talents with the children. The children of KNS benefit
from the low ratios and the wonderful sense of caring that comes from
interactions with the KNS parent community. It is a rewarding experience
for the children, parents, and teachers, where everyone learns from each
other.
The Board of Directors has nine elected officers and is responsible to
the general membership for the management of the school. The Board
discusses preschool policies and makes recommendations to the
membership, establishes fees, authorizes expenditures, approves
appointments and duties of all staff, under extraordinary circumstances
requires withdrawal of members, and carries out other authorized
business. Board positions include: President, Vice President, Treasurer,
Secretary, Maintenance Director, Social Director, Participating Parent
Director, Personnel Director, and Fundraising Director.
